King Street Properties has unveiled plans for a new lab and life sciences redevelopment, Mesa Labworks, in Sorrento Mesa.

King Street is converting the existing single-story building located at 5825 Oberlin Drive, which dates to the mid-1980s and was last renovated for office use in 2016. Construction on Mesa Labwork’s first two speculative lab suites, part of a 60,000 square-foot project, is now underway.

Mesa, offering move-in ready spaces,, will deliver suites ranging from 8,000 to 15,000 square feet that are scheduled for completion in August.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Mike Novkov, Bill Cavanagh and Brett Ward are leading the leasing efforts for Mesa Labworks.

“As the project leasing team, we are very excited to have King Street join the San Diego market with this special transformative project, which is well positioned in one of the world’s most vibrant and renowned life sciences hubs. We envision this new facility to provide significant ready-to-occupy opportunities for a variety of today’s new and proven life sciences users,” said Ward, Cushman’s vice chair.

King Street, with over two decades of expertise in real estate solutions focused on science-based enterprises, operates on a national scale. The firm, based in Boston, oversees 3.5 million square feet of facilities and has over 4 million square feet in development across key life science hubs, including the Bay Area and New York.

The San Diego venture marks King Street’s inaugural project in the region.
