Authorities surveilled the property and then made contact with the residents. The sheriff’s office said they found various stolen items at their property from the recently burglarized home.

DeKalb County authorities then arrested the two residents, Rose Mary Payne, 59, and Jerry Dewane Plott, 57, both of Crossville.

They charged Payne and Plott with third-degree burglary and third-degree theft of property.

Police also charged Plott with obstructing justice using a false ID, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.

They booked the two into the DeKalb County Detention Center.

Sheriff Nick Welden gave this statement on the incident:

“The majority of the victim’s stolen property was located at the subjects’ residence by investigators and was able to be returned to the victim. The Criminal Investigation Division would like to thank Crossville Police Department for their good work on bringing this case to a close as well as the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office Maintenance division for their assistance in the logistics of getting the property returned to its rightful owner.”
