If you love movies, writers, poets, songwriters, railroads, blueberries, brunch or the planet Earth, the Jacksonville area has a festival for you in April.

Maybe you're not into festivals. In that case you can still find a free concert series, an opera, Katt Williams, Billy Strings, the Long Island Medium, the organist from the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris and musical trips to Arendelle, Margaritaville, 16th Century England and Gilligan's Island, all without going any farther than St. Augustine.

Jax River Jams 

April 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Ford on Bay 

The free Thursdays-after-work series of concerts returns to downtown Jacksonville but moves to Ford on Bay because of construction at Riverfront Plaza. Opening of the Beaches Parade 

April 28 in Jacksonville Beach 

Florida’s beaches don’t really close, but that’s no reason not to have a parade to open them. It starts at 2 p.m. along 2^nd Street. The following day, the Jax Beach Sandcastle Contest returns to the beach, just north of the Jax Beach Pier. Info: jacksonvillebeach.org 

Film festivals

Jacksonville Film Festival 

April 12-14 at the Jessie and the Main Library. $15-$250.

Woofstock  

April 13 at Kanine Social 

How do you know your dog doesn’t love live music if you don’t take him to a concert? Woofstock is a dog-friendly show with 16 acts (headliner is national touring act Des Rocks), multiple stages and food trucks. Roscolusa Songwriters Festival

Groove Fest
