Hit-and-Run Incident near Richardson Grove State Park Leads to Arrest

GARBERVILLE, CA (September 26, 2023) – On a Wednesday afternoon, a hit-and-run collision on U.S. Highway 101 resulted in the apprehension of Earl Castillo.

According to official reports, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. along U.S. 101, south of the entrance to Richardson Grove State Park.

According to an eyewitness, a man in a wheelchair had come to a stop on the dirt shoulder, awaiting the arrival of a family member. Meanwhile, a 2010 black Toyota Tundra traveling southbound suddenly veered off the roadway, colliding with the pedestrian.

Police subsequently booked Castillo into Humboldt County Jail on suspicion of DUI causing serious injury, along with multiple other charges.
