Sunset Beach Mayor: State investigating after mayor finds forged signature on town check

Sunset Beach Mayor Shannon Phillips says that the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the town.

According to Phillips, he filed a report with the town’s police department on March 1 after finding that someone forged his signature on a town check.

When asked if it had anything to do with the issues surrounding town administrator Lisa Anglin, he said that all he could say was that the investigation was ongoing.

“On 3/1/24, the SBI received a request from the Sunset Beach Police Department to investigate suspected fraudulent activity of city funds belonging to Sunset Beach,” a statement from the SBI reads.
