The city of Mount Holly is advising residents not to be alarmed by discolored water over the next several weeks.

Beginning Friday, Mount Holly will be conducting annual fire hydrant testing.

“Hydrant testing is a vital component of our commitment to public safety. By conducting regular tests, we can identify and address any issues that may affect the performance of fire hydrants in emergency situations,” the city said in a press release. “During the testing process, residents may notice temporary discoloration in their tap water. This is a common occurrence and poses no health risks. However, we advise residents to avoid using discolored water for laundry to prevent potential staining.”

Testing will be in progress on the following dates this spring:

  • Thursday, March 21 - Friday, March 22
  • Tuesday, March 26 - Thursday, March 28
  • Tuesday, April 2 - Thursday, April 4
  • Tuesday, April 9 - Thursday, April 11
  • Tuesday, April 16 - Thursday, April 18
  • Tuesday, April 23 - Thursday, April 25

Residents with questions about testing or water quality can contact the city’s Field Service Division Manager Ronnie Hale by calling 980-522-0202 or by emailing ronnie.hale@mtholly.us.
