CANTON TWP. — The Canton Sports Center is set to reopen with fanfare for the 2024 spring season following a $1.2 million renovation project.

The center, located at 46555 W. Michigan Ave. in Canton Township’s Victory Park, is a popular sports destination for local softball and baseball leagues and national tournaments.

Funded through Canton Township’s five-year capital improvement plan fund, renovations include a new state-of-the-art LED lighting system that will improve on-field lighting and visibility for the 12 softball fields.

The new lighting system will also reduce energy consumption and enhance the overall experience for players and spectators.

“The Canton Sports Center is an incredible asset to our community, as well as a high-demand sports destination,” Canton Township Leisure Services Director Greg Hohenberger said. “All of these renovations show that Canton Township is committed to recreation and to providing opportunities for all ages to participate in baseball, softball, cricket, lacrosse, flag football, and more.”

All concrete sidewalks surrounding the facility, along with several sidewalks leading to the 12 softball fields, were replaced during the renovation process, with additional sidewalks scheduled for replacement this fall.

A grand re-opening ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, will include Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak and the elected officials of the Canton Township Board of Trustees. Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m.
