NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A Florida man has been taken into custody for his involvement in a deadly hit-and-run on March 28, according to police.

The man was identified James Black of Sebring FL. Black faces charges of manslaughter, evading responsibility resulting in death, and tampering with evidence.

Officers responded to a report of an injured person around 7:10 a.m. in the area of 97 Foxon Rd (Route 80).

When police arrived on the scene, they found a man who appeared to have been struck by an unknown vehicle that had fled the scene.

Police said the man was pronounced dead on the scene. He was later identified as 65-year-old David Horbal of North Branford.

Foxon Road was closed between the East Haven Town line and Totoket Road while police investigated.

Black will be held in custody in Sebring, Florida, awaiting extradition back to Connecticut to appear in court in New Haven.
