Grammy winner Dom Flemons to play Secret City Radio Show, live at the Grove Theater

The Oak Ridger
The Secret City Radio Show, spotlighting the story of the Scarboro 85, will be broadcast live this Friday on WDVX-FM from the historic Grove Theater in Oak Ridge.

Grammy Award-winning American Songster Dom Flemons will headline The Secret City Radio Show at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, on WDVX-FM 89.9. The show will be broadcast live from The Historic Grove Theater in Oak Ridge.

This show’s focus will be the story of The Scarboro 85.

Tickets are available at WDVX.com.

Originally known for co-founding The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Flemons has since crafted a long solo career reclaiming the Black folk music genre and earning his place in the American Currents exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

He comes to Oak Ridge on the tailwinds of his latest album release, “Traveling Wildfire,” which won Best Folk Album at the 2023 Grammys. He will take the stage to showcase his talents as a multi-instrumentalist, storyteller, songwriter, and boundary-breaking producer of traditional folk songs, bringing them into the modern landscape of American Roots music.

Knoxville’s own jazz icon, Kelle Jolly, will also take the stage. “The Tennessee Ukulele Lady” and host of WUOT’s “Jazz Jam,” Jolly will join the show with her own storytelling style of southern folk traditions.

The Secret City Radio Show will also present the community-building initiative, The Periodic Tables, to help tell and build upon the story that is uniquely Oak Ridge.

To be a part of the “off-air” studio audience, join host Chad Beauchaine at 7 p.m. at the historic Grove Theatre, 123 Randolph Road.
