Hundreds of people hit the casino tables to “gamble” for a good cause at the annual Hearts of Hermosa fundraiser this weeked. on March 23 for the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation.

The event, which took place on Saturday, March 23 to raise money for the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation, featured blackjack, roulette and craps, with attendees using “Monopoly” money to gamble.

The James Bond-inspired casino night — which also featured live and silent auctions, and raffles — helped raise money for academic programs in Hermosa Beach schools.

The event also featured food and spirits from local eateries, and dancing to live music and a DJ.

The HBEF sold nearly 600 tickets for the event and raised $385,000, which includes sponsorships, said foundation President Jennifer Buchsbaum.

“We believe (this) is a record since the event began 29 years ago,” Buchsbaum said in a Monday, March 25, email.

Hearts of Hermosa raised more than $330,000, on average, from 2013 to 2023. That does not include the virtual fundraisers that took place in 2020 and 2021 because the coronavirus pandemic.
