UPDATE, 11:30 a.m.: Vermilion Parish Sheriff deputies have confirmed a second arrest in connection with this incident, of a 13-year-old girl. She will be charged with terrorizing. Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY: DELCAMBRE, La. (KLFY) — A 14-year-old girl was arrested after threatening to “shoot up” Delcambre High School via social media on Sunday, authorities said.

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Vermilion Parish Sheriff deputies responded Sunday to a complaint of someone sending out a message on social media stating that they were going to shoot up the school on Monday. Detectives also responded and through investigation, was able to identify a 14-year-old female as the originator of the message. 

As a result of the investigation, the juvenile was arrested on one count of terrorizing and released to the custody of her parents, authorities said. 

Couvillon said that due to the threat, he has deputies assisting Delcambre Police and Iberia Sheriff’s Office with security at the school to ensure the safety of children and faculty. 

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may follow, officials said.
