AUSTIN (KXAN) — The longstanding Austin tradition of ABC Kite Fest returns to Zilker Park on Sunday, April 14. This will be its 96th year.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., families can enjoy the free event, which features a kite flying contest, kite making, a children’s music concert called MossFest as well as food and drink options from local vendors.

“Each year, ABC Kite Fest stands as a testament to what makes this city great: Austinites of all kinds coming together in celebration,” said Owner of ABC Home & Commercial Services Bobby Jenkins, in part, in a press release. The company has sponsored the event since 2014.

The Exchange Club of Austin founded the festival in 1929 as a way to “foster creativity among children,” according to the event’s website. Event organizers boast this is the country’s longest running festival of its kind.

You can check out details for pre-paid parking, shuttle bus passes and road closures on the ABC Kite Fest website. If you’re interested in a VIP experience, that information is online as well.

The event hosted an estimated 50,000 attendees last year.
