One Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Crash near Main Street

COTTONWOOD, CA (November 7, 2022) – Sunday night, Matthew Brooks-Garcia was involved in an auto-pedestrian crash on Interstate 5.

The incident happened at 11:02 p.m. on north Interstate 5, near south of Main Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Garcia was driving north on Interstate 5 when he struck a man who was walking on the roadway for unknown reasons. Police said the driver, 28-year-old Matthew Brooks-Garcia tried to swerve to prevent hitting the man, but still ended up colliding with the pedestrian.

Responding medics arrived and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of kin.

Authorities do not currently believe that drugs or alcohol were factors. However, an active investigation remains ongoing.

California Highway Patrol officials are urging any witnesses to the fatal pedestrian crash to contact them at 530-225-0500.
