NCSHP: Cherryville man on bike killed in late-night wreck

CHERRYVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 59-year-old Cherryville bicyclist died in a late-night wreck Wednesday.

N.C. State Highway Patrol said Timothy Mark Eaker was on a bicycle around 9 p.m. in Lincoln County on N.C. 182 near Sorrells Baxter Road when the fatal wreck happened.

They say a 2016 Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on NC 182 and struck Eaker riding eastbound. The man had no reflective clothing, the roadway was not lighted, and no lights were on the bicycle.

Authorities say the Jeep driver, Kay Justice Cooke, 59, of Lawndale, did not suffer any injuries.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed as contributing factors.

The roadway was closed for several hours during the on-scene NCSHP investigation. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.
