Robert Walter Bein OBITUARY

Robert Walter Bein, a remarkable man whose life was marked by dedication, leadership, and unwavering love, was born in Chicago, IL Sep 13, 1933, and passed away on Feb 17, 2024 in Newport Beach, CA. Predeceased by his beloved family members, mother: Gertrude Bein, father: Walter Bein, sister: Barbara Brumbaugh, and brother: Walter (Bud) Bein.Bob grew up on Chicago’s South Side where he discovered a passion for sports and literature while delivering newspapers along Route 365. His determination and curiosity led him to the University of Illinois, where he was dubbed “cutest freshie,” and met Ruth, the love of his life who he married and shared over 70 years. Bob served in the Navy as a Lieutenant JG deployed in the Mediterranean. After an honorable discharge, Bob and Ruth moved to California where Bob worked as a Civil Engineer for the County of Los Angeles, and eventually settled in Corona del Mar, Orange County.Bob worked for the Irvine Company and later a small survey firm that became RBF. His vision and leadership transformed RBF into a thriving Engineering company of 1100 employees. His impact extended to leadership roles in prestigious organizations, as National President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and President of the Consulting Engineers & Land Surveyors of California (CELSOC).Bob was a man of faith and love for Jesus, expressing this love in every aspect of his life and with all he met. RBF’s Easter Prayer Breakfast brought together hundreds annually from all denominations and religions throughout the community to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.Bob embraced adventure through his passion for scuba diving, his photography above and below water, and savored fine wines.
