Newport News blood drive draws more than 100 donors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The World Mission Society Church of God partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive over the weekend.

At the beginning of the year, the American Red Cross announced an emergency blood shortage. In response to the shortage, more than 100 church members and guests participated in the Newport News blood drive Sunday.

Senator Danny Diggs was among the attendees. “As you can see it’s an awesome event with a lot of energy going on and a lot of participants doing good things for the community and doing God’s work.”

The blood drive also had giveaways, a bbq, family-friendly activities such as a bounce house and face painting and guest speakers.

The event was Sunday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 201 Menchville Road in Newport News.
