Northern Colorado sprinter and hurdler Jerome Campbell was named the Big Sky Conference outdoor track athlete of the week Tuesday, which was the second honor this season for the sophomore from Jamaica.

Campbell ran the 100-meter dash in 10.31 seconds Friday at the University of Colorado’s Colorado Invitational in Boulder. The invitational was shortened to one day because of inclement weather.

Campbell’s time in the 100 is the best in the Big Sky Conference this season. The conference outdoor performance list on the Track & Field Results Reporting System website at tfrrs.org lists Campbell’s time as 10.34 seconds, which was converted to allow for altitude.

The second-best time in the 100 meters in the Big Sky this season is 10.51 seconds by Northern Arizona’s Kyle Smith. Smith recorded the time March 22 at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

Campbell also won the 110-meter hurdles (13.76 seconds) at the CU invitational, and he helped the Bears’ 4×100-meter relay to a win in 40.80 seconds.

Abdul Razak, Johnny Fisher and Edgar Garcia ran the 4×100 relay with Campbell. The time of 40.80 is currently tied for fifth best in the conference this year, according to tfrrs.org.

Campbell also holds the Big Sky’s best time of the year in the 110-meter hurdles. He ran a time of 13.58 seconds March 22 at San Diego State’s 45th Aztec Invitational. Campbell was named the conference track athlete of the week March 25 following his performance at San Diego State.

UNC is scheduled to compete Friday and Saturday at the Tom Jones Invitational at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
