Fisherman drowns in Lake Eufaula after falling off boat Wednesday

The body of a fisherman who drowned Wednesday in Lake Eufaula has been recovered, authorities said.

Will Anthony Newman, 65, of Dothan, was on a fishing trip when drowned after falling overboard near the Cheneyhatchee Bridge in Eufaula, the Eufaula Police Department said.

Newman’s body was recovered from the lake around 7:55 p.m. Wednesday.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Division is handling the investigation while the Eufaula police and fire departments, the Alabama Game and Fish Division, Barbour County Sheriff’s Office and the Houston County Dive Team.

“Our thoughts and prayers from each department go out to the family,” Eufaula police said on social media.
