UPDATE 5:17 p.m. – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has shared additional information on how Will Newman sadly fell overboard while on a fishing trip.

According to ALEA, Newman fell from a 2019 21-foot Bayliner while attempting to secure the boat to the Cheneyhatchee Bridge on Lake Eufaula.

The incident happened around 4:50 p.m. and authorities were able to recover Newman’s body at 7:55 p.m.; nearly 15 yards away from where he fell. Newman was pronounced dead on the scene.

UPDATE 10:18 p.m. – The Eufaula Police have located the body of the man who fell overboard near the Cheneyhatchee Bridge.

Police say 65-year-old Will Newman from Dothan, Alabama, drowned after falling near the bridge while on a fishing trip. His body was recovered from Lake Eufaula.

As of now, the ALEA Marine Division has taken over the drowning case.

Eufaula Police says the Houston County dive term has been alerted about the incident.
