Santa Fe Springs is encouraging children in the city to unleash their inner artist and participate in this year’s sidewalk chalk event.

The “Chalk It Out” event is Saturday, April 13, at the Town Center Plaza, 11740 E. Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration is required for this free event. The last day to register online is Friday, April 5.

“I am thrilled to invite the community to attend the Chalk It Out event, a celebration of creativity and community spirit, and a prelude to our infamous Art Fest,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Guz Hernandez. “Join us as we witness the sidewalks of Town Center Plaza transform into vibrant works of art.”

Kids ages 5 to 17 years old can participate in the sidewalk chalk contest, where they will get to showcase their creativity on a 4×4 square.

Artists will be separated into age categories, including groups ages 5-7; 8-10; 11-13; and 14-17 years old. Prizes will be awarded to each age group. The top artists will be featured on a banner in the Plaza and at the Santa Fe Springs Art Fest event later this month, Hernandez said.

At the event, there will also be live chalk art demonstrations, music, face painters, a balloon artist, and more.

“Chalk It Out serves as a colorful testament to the talent and diversity of our community,” Hernandez said. “Come join in the festivities to celebrate local artists or to enjoy a fun-filled day with family and friends.”
