Skiers and snowboarders took part in the annual pond skimming extravaganza during the Elk Camp Surf & Snow Beach Party on Saturday, April 13, at Snowmass Ski Area.

Participants attempted to reach the other side of a pond while wearing skis or a snowboard, although the biggest cheers always go toward those with the biggest splashes — and crashes — into the pool.

It was part of the closing weekend festivities at Snowmass, with the ski area’s official closing day having come on Sunday. With Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk also having closed in recent weeks, only Aspen Mountain remains operational for lift-assisted skiing and riding.

Aspen Mountain is scheduled to close this coming Sunday, April 21, with the annual party atop the Sundeck. That send off will mark the end of the 2023-24 ski season for Aspen Snowmass.
