HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — During the course of a 45-year span on an anchor desk, one is bound to gain a long list of co-anchors.

Jerry Hayes first graced the anchor desk at News 19 in 1979 as a weekend anchor. From there, he served as an evening anchor and midday anchor before earning the 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. main anchor spot in November of 1983.

By our best calculations (and this is relying heavily on his memory), Jerry racked up 18 full-time co-anchors, which is an average of one every 2.5 years.

Those co-anchors include Cherie Blakemore, Missy Ming, Cindy Sexton, Vera Clay, Kimberly Van Scoy, Michelle Muro, Kristen Williams, Kris Hall, Lisa Douglas, Karen Tarica, Rebecca Mesa, Amy George, Kym Richardson (Anderson), Elise Morgan, Lee Marshall, Melissa Riopka, Clarissa McClain and Christine Killimayer.

Following the news of his retirement, some of his co-anchors took the time to explain what it was like to share the anchor desk with Jerry.
