Sentence in Holyoke COVID-19 deaths case: 3 months probation for top leaders

NORTHAMPTON — The former superintendent and medical director at the Veterans’ Home in Holyoke each received three months probation Tuesday, cutting short their trials on charges that they engaged in neglect in the care of veterans.

Bennett Walsh, the former superintendent, and Dr. David Clinton, changed their not-guilty pleas in cases brought following the deaths of more than 80 residents of the Holyoke facility due to COVID-19 in the early weeks of the pandemic.

The legal outcome brought expressions of anguish and emotion outside the court by relatives of some of the veterans who died.
