TCSO deputy shoots, kills man in eastern Travis County

EASTERN TRAVIS COUNTY (KXAN) – The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday night it was at the scene of a shooting involving an officer on Hog Eye Road.

TCSO said deputies responded to 9301 Hog Eye Road at 9:36 p.m. after a 911 call requesting a welfare check. When they arrived, TCSO said they encountered a man who was “behaving erratically.”

KXAN’s Nabil Remadna was at the scene late Wednesday and said it was in the Mobile Loaves & Fishes community on Hog Eye Road just East of Austin.

TCSO said while deputies were trying to deescalate the situation, the man “presented a weapon,” and a deputy fired his gun and shot the man, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, and TCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division and TCSO Internal Affairs Unit are also conducting parallel investigations.

TCSO said it will not release further information regarding the investigation.

The deputy is being placed on administrative assignment as the investigation continues.
