A woman was found slain inside her Mulga home Thursday and the suspect in her death was shot by police after a chase through Adamsville ended in gunfire in Graysville.

The discovery was made about 10:30 a.m. after family became concerned because they had not heard from the 46-year-old woman since at least Wednesday. The victim lived in the 200 block of Second Avenue.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Henry Irby said forced entry was made into the home and the victim was found unresponsive inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Irby said the victim appears to have been shot.

The victim’s name has not yet been released. Multiple grieving family members have been at the crime scene for most of the day.

A lookout bulletin for a potential suspect in a white Cadillac was broadcast about 1:30 p.m. on area law enforcement police radios.

Adamsville police spotted the suspect and a chase began through the city. Spike strips were used to stop the vehicle and officials say the suspect fired at police.

Officers returned fire, striking the suspect, at the corner of Cherry Avenue and Glasgow Hollow Road in Graysville. That location is just off Interstate 22.

The suspect was taken to UAB Hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

Anyone with additional information on the homicide is asked to call sheriff’s detectives at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
