Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2024 PGA Golf Guide, Betting Preview, Odds And Picks

Following

The PGA Tour heads eight hours North from Torrey Pines to Pebble Beach along the beautiful Monterey coastline for this week’s 83rd edition of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. While last year’s tournament lacked star power with just seven of the top 50 players in the world rankings, this year’s event is filled with the PGA’s top pros as the second Signature Event of 2024 following the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The eight Signature Events on the 2024 PGA Tour schedule each have a prize pool of $20 million and $3.6 million to the winner. A change to this year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am event is that two courses instead of three are played. The invitational field is limited to 80 players with no-cut, and features 49 of the top 50 finishers on last year’s FedEx Cup points list. Only Jon Rahm is absent after joining LIV Golf.

The first two rounds are alternated between Pebble Beach and Spy Glass Hill, which both feature Poa annua greens and a mixture of Ryegrass/Poa fairways and rough.

  • Pebble Beach Golf Links - 6,972 yards, Par 72
  • Spyglass Hill Golf Course - 7,041 yards, Par 72

How Pebble Beach played in 2023: Scoring average 71.53 (PGA Tour rank No. 21)

How Spyglass Hill played in 2023: Scoring average 72.80 (PGA Tour rank No. 8)

Amateurs and celebrities along with pro athletes play alongside the pro golfers the first two rounds, and the PGA Tour players shoot for birdies Saturday and Sunday at Pebble Beach, which features the smallest greens on tour averaging 3,500 square feet.

Pebble Beach remains one of the world’s most iconic links courses, with winds always in play off the ocean. A cold and wet winter leading up to the tournament continues with rain Wednesday and course closed to the public during practice rounds for safety purposes. Thursday and Friday’s forecast calls for a 50% chance of precipitation. A better than 80% chance of rain is forecast for Sunday with the leaders teeing off in 20-30 mph winds. Keep that in mind as you watch and wager on the action.

“The way the weather looks, it’s going to be like hitting a low punch on most every golf shot and trying to get up and down,” Max Homa said Tuesday on the No Laying Up live broadcast at Pebble Beach driving range.

A total of 116 sand bunkers are in play to navigate at Pebble Beach, and nearly twice that of Spyglass Hill (62), which features four holes with water in play. Players will be rewarded with strategic course management and elite approach play from within 150 yards. Pebble Beach also yields one of lowest Greens in Regulation percentages on Tour, so Scrambling and Around the Green are key stats in play at Pebble Beach.

The remaining 2/3 of the field of 80 players are bigger longshots. That includes Nick Dunlap, who won as an amateur this year at the The American Express at +40000 (400/1) odds. Dunlap makes his professional debut this week and is +15000 to win and cash-in his first paycheck as a pro.
