Community Foundation gives $145K to education programs

HOLLAND — The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was felt around the world, but perhaps nowhere stronger than in education.

According to the 2023 State of Michigan Education Report "Beyond the Pandemic," recent assessments show many students fall short of age-based benchmarks academically, socially and emotionally.

Learning loss has disproportionately impacted students from low-income households, students with disabilities, English learners and Black and Latinx students.

In response, the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area is contributing $145,000 to three organizations offering out-of-school academic interventions for those most impacted by the gap.

“These grants underscore our vision of fostering equitable access to high-quality education, ensuring that every child has the chance to thrive,” said Director of Community Impact Yadah V. Ramirez.
