DOVER ‒ The city of Dover will be spending around $1.1 million on street paving during 2024, according to Service Director Dave Douglas.

  • Mayor Shane Gunnoe reported that city officials expect demolition work to begin soon at the former Midway Lumber Co. building on S. Tuscarawas Avenue next to the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds. Asbestos remediation on the structure is anticipated to start April 22 and demolition will occur soon after remediation is completed. The project is one of two demolitions funded this year in Dover through the Ohio Department of Development housing demolition program.

  • The mayor also reported that Dover Light & Power recently had its annual power supply update from American Municipal Power. The analysis found that residential rates remain level, despite high transmission costs and inflation, he said. An AEP standard service customer is seeing a total expected rate of 18.4 cents per kilowatt hour, compared to 14.5 cents per kilowatt hour for Dover power customers. The average Dover customer who uses about 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will save nearly $38 per month, Gunnoe said.

  • The annual Canal Dover Festival will run from May 24 to 26. The parade will be held at noon on May 25. If anyone would like to register for the parade, they can find a registration form on the city's website or Facebook page.
