Human remains and clothing that were found over the weekend near the southern coast of Alaska may be connected to the disappearance of a family of four last year, according to a statement released by police.
Police said Sunday items found at the scene "appear to match items identified as missing" from the home of Brandon Jividen, 38, Rebecca Adams, 23, and Adams' daughters, Michelle Hundley, 6, and Jaracca Hundley, 3. The family's dog, Sparks, is also missing.
Officials said someone driving down a trail Saturday between Alpine Drive and Borgen Avenue, off the Kenai Spur Highway, in the area spotted the remains and called authorities.
The family's apartment is just directly southwest from the spot where the remains were found.
Adams last contacted relatives on May 27th, 2014, when she called her sister Lanell Adams. "She sounded distressed," Adams told local NBC affiliate KTUU. "She had to get off the phone quickly; she couldn't tell me what was wrong. She told me that she just wanted me to know that she loves me and I haven't heard from her since."
A press conference is schedule for 12 pm local time Monday in Kenai.

On May 23rd, a family disappeared.
US Air Force veteran Brandon Jividen, 37, his girlfriend Rebecca Adams, 22, and her daughters Michelle and Jaracca Hundley, aged six and three, disappeared from their apartment in Kenai, Alaska; about 150 miles from Anchorage. Their dog Sparks is also missing.
Adams last contacted relatives on May 27th, when she called her sister Lanell Adams. "She sounded distressed," Adams told local NBC affiliate KTUU. The family left everything behind – cars, wallets, clothes, camping gear, car seats, and baby bags. Their cell phones have been turned off, and there was no sign of foul play or struggle in the apartment.
The former mother-in-law of Rebecca Adams and the grandmother of Michelle and Jaracca, 46-year-old Lisa Marie Hundley, was taken into custody for questioning. FBI special agent Steve Forrest told KTUU that they hope to learn more about the family from her, and that that she is not being considered as someone connected to their disappearance.
