Nigel David Flowers, 25, of Kingstree, and Mahogahany Na’Jae Hemingway, 21, of Kingstree, have been arrested by Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office and changed with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child.

On March 18, Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office responded to MUSC Black River Medical Center for a report of an infant with burns. The investigation determined that Nijel Flowers and Mahogahany Hemingway placed their infant child at unreasonable risk, affecting the infant’s life, health and safety by allowing the infant to be severely burned by hot water from the bathroom toilet at a residence on Sherrill Avenue in Kingstree.  The arrest warrant stated that digital readings taken by law enforcement of the water inside the toilet showed a temperature exceeding 129.9 degrees Fahrenheit.

Flowers and Hemingway surrendered themselves to the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office on April 11.  They are being held at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.  The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
