Slade Cecconi Hammered in Second Start of the Year

The right-hander got bit by the home run ball in the hitter-friendly confines of Greater Nevada Field.

In his second start with Reno Wednesday afternoon, it was a very "Reno" statline for right-hander Slade Cecconi. Cecconi allowed nine hits in four-plus innings, giving up six runs and two home runs. The first was a ball hit down the right field line for David Villar, the second off a hanging slider that was torched by Luis Matos. Cecconi struck out five and walked one.

Adrian Del Castillo went 2-for-4 with a 4th inning double Wednesday, which came off the bat at 105.3 MPH. The Diamondbacks catching prospect is 4-for-8 with a double and a home run in his first two games. José Herrera walked in three of four plate appearances Thursday and scored a run.

Justin Martinez pitched Thursday night. The right-hander allowed two runs to score to blow a 7-5 lead and had a throwing error on a play where he made a good barehanded play but skipped the throw into first. A two-out triple and single allowed the River Cats to tie it 7-7. All three outs recorded were strikeouts. It was Martinez's first blown save of the year.

Andrew Saalfrank pitched two scoreless innings in Wednesday's game. In two outings this season, the left-hander has allowed three walks, hit a batter, and struck out two. Right-hander Corbin Martin allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings on Thursday. On the season he's allowed three runs in three innings, with three walks and three strikeouts.
