A rain forecast this weekend has put a halt to what would have been a, ahem, colorful weekend.

The city of Santa Fe Springs announced that it would be canceling its annual sidewalk chalk event set for Saturday due to the rain forecast for this weekend.

The annual “Chalk It Out” event is an opportunity for children in the city to participate in a chalk contest where they showcase their creativity on a 4×4 square. The event was scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at the Town Center Plaza.

Notice of the cancellation of the event will be shared on the city’s social media pages, said the city’s spokesperson Raelene Barraza.

“Chalk It Out” will not be rescheduled. So folks will have to wait for next year, Barraza said.

However, the city is still encouraging chalk art enthusiasts and young artists who were looking forward to the event to attend the 2024 Santa Fe Springs Art Fest on Friday, April 26, as there will be a chalk art component for children to participate in.
