The Marion County Prosecutor, IMPD, the DEA recently announced three new cases charging accused drug dealers with the deaths of 5 people, caused by fentanyl.
A tougher law allowing prosecutors to go after dealers went into effect in 2018. But, a FOX59 investigation in 2021 found Marion county rarely used the law. It has the lowest rate charging suspects compared to any other county in the state, and Indianapolis had by far the most drug overdose deaths.
However, since January 2023, the Marion County Prosecutor has filed 11 cases, and the DEA is a huge reason these cases are getting prosecuted.
