17-Year-Old Girl Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Shelton Road

RIO VISTA, CA (December 4, 2023) – Lilly Butler died Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash on Highway 26 and Sheldon Road.

Dispatchers responded to the scene at approximately 2:45 p.m., in an unincorporated part of Valley Springs.

According to reports, a male driver attempted to overtake slow-moving westbound traffic by utilizing eastbound lanes. In doing so, the driver collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, which was being operated by 17-year-old Butler. Paramedics later declared Butler deceased at the scene, citing the severity of her injuries.

Butler was a senior at Calaveras High School and the daughter of Joe Butler, a member of the Rio Vista Fire Department. The male driver, identified only as a 61-year-old Valley Springs man, sustained significant injuries.

As of now, no additional details about the head-on collision on Highway 26 have been disclosed to the public. Further information will be provided by Rio Vista Officials when it becomes available.
