CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — There is more reaction to West Virginia Governor Jim Justice making an endorsement for who should take his place next year.

Last week, Republican Governor Justice made headlines when he endorsed former Delegate Moore Capito (R) in the race to succeed him. Some political watchers call it a payback since Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Moore’s mother, was one of the first to endorse Justice in his U.S. Senate bid.

Businessman Chris Miller, who is also running for governor, says endorsements don’t matter to voters much, but the issues do.

“You know, politicians in the political class, search out endorsements. My endorsements that I am looking for are the people in West Virginia. They are the voters, they are the taxpayers, they are the most important. That’s the only endorsement I want,” said Miller (R).

Miller says he received an endorsement from West Virginians for Life. Today, that organization said it equally endorsed the other candidates – Moore Capito, Patrick Morrisey and Mac Warner – as being pro-life enough to be the next West Virginia Governor.

Also Monday, outgoing U.S. Senator Joe Manchin has endorsed Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott, a Democrat, to succeed him in the U.S. Senate.

One person who still has not made an endorsement for West Virginia Governor is former President Donald Trump. All four major Republican candidates are Trump backers, but so far, he hasn’t picked a favorite.
