HOUSTON (KIAH) For some, the symptoms of multiple sclerosis can be mild, but for others, they’re downright debilitating.

With that in mind, more than 5,400 cyclists will hit the road this weekend to raise awareness about MS and to raise money for research that hopefully one day leads to a cure.

“This is an important event,” National MS Society South Central Chapter President DeAndra Stanley said. “At the end of the day, there are over a million people living with MS, and so, while we’re out here riding for a great cause, and we’re having fun while we’re doing it, at the end of the day, we are here working for a cure so we can cure this disease.”

Stanley says this year’s ride will bring in around $9.5 million dollars.

The ride starts at several locations in Houston and Austin Saturday morning allowing cyclists to choose the length of their ride which can be up to 150 miles and longer.

The destination for all riders is Kyle Field on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station where MS 150 festivities will wrap up on Sunday.

The bulk of the riding is Saturday, so drivers are urged to be on the look out for groups of cyclists west of the Houston-area and give them some space.

Event leaders are grateful for their participation and others.

“I would just like to say thank you to all of our sponsors, all of the cyclists that will be out there on Saturday, as well as all of our volunteers that are helping us get to our goal of finding the cure,” Stanley said.
