(KRON) — The Santa Clara Police Department impounded a car for participating in a sideshow in Santa Clara on Thursday.

“Did someone order a dozen donuts with a side of reckless driving?” SCPD said in a statement.

Police said they responded to calls of a sideshow car performing donuts at Monroe Street and Bowers Avenue in Santa Clara at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. When the donuts ended, however, the driver decided to make a “run for it” before police arrived on the scene, SCPD said.

After tracking down the driver and obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, the driver’s car “is taking a forced vacation in impound for 30 days,” SCPD said. “Imagine how many donuts you could buy with that impound fee!”

“Moral of the story,” SCPD said, “next time you feel the urge to do some donuts and drive recklessly, remember, we’ve got a whole box of consequences waiting for you!”

In 2020, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance allowing vehicles involved in stunt driving to be impounded for up to 30 days. In tandem, SFPD established a stunt driving response unit intended to deter the practice. Other counties, such as Santa Clara, have since implemented the same ordinances.
