We all know about the Chicago-style Hot Dog in these parts.

But what about the “Atlanta Dog?” This is one of the hot dog offerings from around the country served up by America’s Dog & Burger, which says hot dogs can be eaten at any meal.

“These hot dogs are something you can eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner,” America’s Dog & Burger co-owner and Chicago restaurateur Manolis Alpogianis said.

“Because they’re delicious.”

Alpogianis stopped by the WGN Weekend Morning News to make an “Atlanta Dog” for Sunday Brunch. He explained that the concept for the restaurant came about when he and his brother, a chef, took a trip around the country and noticed how different places made their own version of the classic hot dog.

“We took note that every city has its own way of making a hot dog,” Alpogianis said.

One of those was the “Atlanta Dog,” which features coleslaw and beer-battered jalapenos as its special ingredients.

But ketchup? No way.

“No!” Alpogianis declares, emphatically. “No hot dog has ketchup on it.”

Then, he did concede that there’s an age exception.

“If you’re 12 or younger, ketchup could go on a hot dog,” Alpogianis allowed.

America’s Dog & Burger opened its original location in 1996 at Navy Pier and is now also located in O’Hare International Airport at United Terminal 1, Concourse C, and Midway International Airport at the Central Market Gate.

Alpogianis said a location is opening soon in Detroit.
