Q: So why are we observing Parkinson’s awareness today?
A: The date commemorates the birthday of Dr. James Parkinson, born April 11, 1755, and most famous for recognizing Parkinson’s as a medical condition.
Q: My father has Parkinson’s and dementia, and my family is going through a very tough time right now. I read the number of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s is projected to keep going up?
A: A million people in the U.S. live with Parkinson’s disease, and 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with Parkinson’s every year. That’s projected to double by 2023.
Q: Marilyn, you’re a member of Club Parkinson’s. How has the Club improved your life?
A: When I first came to Club Parkinson’s, I could not walk; it has totally changed my life.
Q: What’s your favorite thing or activity at Club Parkinson’s?
A: I love the camaraderie of the group. We life each other up and can relate. Our empowerment group is my favorite class.
