Rescuers recovered more bodies on Tuesday after weekend flash floods and cold lava flow on Indonesia's Sumatra island killed at least 57 people and left another 22 missing, provincial officials said."To date, 57 victims have been found dead," Ilham Wahab, West Sumatra disaster mitigation agency official, told AFP, adding 22 people were still missing.

Clean Energy and Maas Energy Works to build RNG dairy production plants
Renewable energy firm Clean Energy Fuels said on Tuesday it will jointly develop renewable natural gas (RNG) production plants at dairy farms across seven states in the U.S. with RNG producer Maas Energy Works. The project will collect manure from dairies with a combined herd size of about 35,000 cows, preventing methane emissions from entering the atmosphere.

LONDON (Reuters) -The intense northern hemisphere summer heat that drove wildfires across the Mediterranean, buckled roads in Texas and strained power grids in China last year made it not just the warmest summer on record - but the warmest in some 2,000 years, new research suggests. The stark finding comes from one of two new studies released on Tuesday, as both global temperatures and climate-warming emissions continue to climb. New work published in the journal Nature suggests the 2023 heat eclipsed temperatures over a far longer timeline - a finding established by looking at meteorological records dating to the mid-1800s and temperature data based on the analysis of tree rings across nine northern sites.

Basavaraj, a water tanker driver in India's tech hub Bengaluru, has to leave home by 6:30 a.m. each day to collect enough water for his customers, who now depend on his services for a very basic need. Residents of the southern city of 14 million people, capital of Karnataka state and often called "India's Silicon Valley", have been reeling due to water shortages amid unusually hot weather. "Around 40 tankers used to come here every day earlier but now only about 15-20 come as water from the bore wells has also reduced," he said.

UPDATE 1-US offers conditional $1.66 billion loan to hydrogen producer Plug Power
The U.S. Department of Energy said on Tuesday it has offered a conditional loan guarantee of up to $1.66 billion to Plug Power to help it build up to six plants to produce clean hydrogen. The hydrogen fuel from the plants would power fuel cell-electric vehicles used in material handling, transportation, and heavy industry, the department's office of loan programs said. Clean or green hydrogen is expected to result in an 84% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional hydrogen production, which derives hydrogen from natural gas, releasing large amounts of the main greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, unless captured and stored underground.
