Goldthwaite's Payten McGee voted Standard-Times Athlete of the Week

With district track meets finished and area track meets this week, plenty of West Texas high school athletes had outstanding performances and were nominated for Standard-Times Athlete of the Week.

Goldthwaite's Payten McGee was voted the Standard-Times Athlete of the Week after earning a whopping 16,032 votes, 49.71% of the total votes cast.

McGee was nominated after she won the 1,600-meter and 3,200 events at the District 29-2A meet setting a PR in both with a 5:40.14 and 12:08.81 respectively.

How to submit nominations

The Standard-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Nominations for next week's award are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@gosanangelo.com, by messaging the Standard-Times through its Facebook page, or on X (formerly known as Twitter) @sast_sports.

Briggs Jones, Wall Track - 13,558 votes.

Logan Prater, Eldorado Track - 1,432 votes.

Gunnar Dillard, Wall Baseball - 585 votes.
