Free paint drop-off event coming to Steamboat Springs in June

PaintCare is offering the public more than a dozen paint drop-off events across Colorado this summer and fall, and one is set for June 22 in Steamboat Springs.

The nonprofit says most of its drop-off events will also offer paint in good condition to the public for free. Other paint drop-off events are planned in Cripple Creek, Ouray, Grand Lake, Lamar, Creede, Crested Butte, the Colorado Springs area and more.

The one in Steamboat will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 22 at Steamboat Springs Middle School (39610 Amethyst Drive). Registration is required. To register, go to Bit.ly/3xR3sH3.

At the drop-off events, households may bring any amount of house paint and primers, latex or oil-based; stains; deck and concrete sealers; and clear finishes, varnish and shellac. Paint must be in its sealed, original containers with the original manufacturer’s label.

PaintCare does not accept leaking, unlabeled or empty containers; aerosol coatings; drums or containers larger than five gallons; hazardous waste or other chemicals, such as paint thinner, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides or cleaning chemicals.

According to the nonprofit, the collected paint will go to processing facilities, where it will be remixed into recycled-content paint, used as fuel or used in other applications.

Additionally, PaintCare says there are more than 200 year-round drop-off sites across Colorado, including two in Steamboat at Ace Hardware and Sherwin-Williams.

The map of sites is available at Paintcare.org/drop-off-sites/. For more, go to PaintcCare.org/co.
