Workplace Safety North (WSN) has announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer and two new vice-presidents to its ranks.
On June 19, the organization confirmed Paul Andre is taking on the role of president and CEO. Andre served vice-president of prevention services at WSN since 2010, and acting president and CEO since June 2017.
“I believe the strength of WSN is rooted in its people and our ability evolves to meet a constantly changing occupational health and safety landscape,” Andre said in the release.
“We continue to anticipate and be responsive to provincial occupational health and safety needs, and as the only safe workplace association physically located in the North, with our staff located across the vast geography of Northern Ontario, WSN is uniquely positioned to support the resource-based sector, and the community-based businesses of northern Ontario.”
The former CEO and field services manager of the Pulp and Paper Health and Safety Association has more than 25 years’ experience in Ontario’s prevention system, and also volunteers as chair of the board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.
Through his work with boards of directors as well as industry and prevention system partners, Paul has established a reputation as a strong and collaborative leader in health and safety promotion.
Mike Parent will take on the role of vice-president of prevention services, effective May 14. He has served as the WSN’s director of mining since 2015.
Ted Hanley has been named WSN’s vice-president of mine rescue and emergency services. He’s served as the general manager of Ontario Mine Rescue since 2014.
An independent not-for-profit, WSN is one of four sector-based health and safety associations in Ontario, and provides province-wide ministry-approved workplace health and safety training and services for the mining and forest products industries, as well as for businesses across Northern Ontario.
WSN is headquartered in North Bay.
