Unaddressed hearing loss costs $750b yearly

•Foundation to launch hearing aid, treatment platform

UNADDRESSED hearing loss poses an annual global cost of US$ 750 billion, a report has indicated.

Kemi Remi-Dairo Hearing Foundation, a non-profit organisation with the aim of providing medical treatment platform, access to financial/technical support and education on hearing loss, made this known in a statement yesterday.

According to the foundation, interventions to prevent, identify and address hearing loss are cost-effective and can bring great benefit to individuals.

Promoter of the foundation Kemi Remi-Dairo stated that the initiative is working with a special team that consists of otology surgeons, audiologists, a speech-language pathologist, an educational consultant, international bodies and psychologists to tackle the problems of hearing loss.

The foundation and its services are billed to be launched on Sunday.

In a statement, the foundation said it has a mission to create avenues that put a stop to intense and high increase in hearing loss and ear problems in Nigeria and Africa.

It said it intends to achieve that  with the help of  medical and surgical treatment, awareness creation on prevention of noise pollution, providing hearing technologies, speech and hearing rehabilitation and educational support to those financially incapable.
