Virginia officials reported 865 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the state’s total to 49,397, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

Of those, 47,123 are confirmed and 2,274 are probable, meaning medical professionals consider them to have the virus based on symptoms or epidemiological evidence despite a lack of testing. There have been 1,460 deaths, a rise of seven reported overnight.

The seven-day rate of positive tests for the commonwealth is 10.2%, excluding antibody tests. It’s been declining steadily over time, though up marginally from Friday. A week ago, it was over 13%.

Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Gov. Ralph Northam has said he wants to see a 14-day downward trend in the percentage of positive coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, as well as an increase in the number of tests and personal protective equipment available between each phase before moving forward.

So far, 368,857 people have been tested for the illness caused by the novel coronavirus. More than 7,300 tests were reported in the past 24 hours.

The number of people currently hospitalized for COVID-19 is 1,171, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, down 34 from Friday. Of those patients, 821 have tested positive and 350 are awaiting test results. About a fifth of the state’s total ventilators are in use. So far, 6,382 patients with the virus have been discharged after being hospitalized.

In southeastern Virginia, Accomack County on the Eastern Shore continues to lead the region in cases, with 970, up one overnight. Thirteen have died.

Elsewhere in Hampton Roads, here are the latest numbers, compared to Friday:

Virginia Beach: 798 cases, (up 14); 25 deaths (no change)

Chesapeake: 577 cases (up 14); 15 deaths (no change)

Norfolk: 562 cases (up 2); 7 deaths (up 1)

Portsmouth: 335 cases (up 10), 11 deaths (no change)

Suffolk: 323 cases (up 1); 33 deaths (no change)

Hampton: 215 cases (no change); 4 deaths (no change)

Newport News: 314 cases (up 5); 10 deaths (no change)

James City County: 211 cases (no change); 15 deaths (no change)

Isle of Wight: 142 cases (up 5); 3 deaths (no change)

Northampton County: 251 cases (up 2), 25 deaths (no change)

Poquoson: 8 cases (no change); no deaths

York: 82 cases (up 3); 3 deaths (no change)

Williamsburg: 45 cases (no change); 5 deaths (no change)

Mathews: 5 cases (no change); no deaths

Middlesex: 14 cases (no change); no deaths

Gloucester: 32 cases (no change); 1 death (no change)

The number of cases reported in long-term care facilities statewide is 5,230 and they account for 823 deaths (up 2), according to the VDH.

Virginians 80 or older have the highest number of deaths, with 759, but not the highest total cases, with 2,877. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down across the commonwealth:

70-79: 2,666 cases, 360 deaths

60-69: 5,184 cases, 208 deaths

50-59: 7,827 cases, 84 deaths

40-49: 9,093 cases, 34 deaths

30-39: 9,172 cases, 11 deaths

20-29: 7,824 cases, 3 deaths

10-19: 2,806 cases, no deaths

0-9: 1,450 cases, no deaths

Across the state, 24,596 women have had COVID-19 and 706 women died. A total of 24,258 men have had COVID-19 and 737 have died. In addition, 17 deaths did not have a reported sex and 543 cases did not have a reported sex.

The rate of positive tests for each of the health districts in southeastern Virginia (compared to Friday):

Virginia Beach: 3.2% (no change)

Norfolk: 6.3% (no change)

Chesapeake: 7.3% (no change)

Portsmouth: 9.1% (up marginally)

Western Tidewater: 4.3% (no change)

Eastern Shore: 14.2% (no change)

Hampton: 6.8% (no change)

Peninsula: 6.2% (up marginally)
