The Platte County Health Department's Board of Trustees voted Thursday to allow schools to open on Sept. 8 with pre-K through fifth grade being in-person and sixth through 12th grades under a hybrid model.
The board chose to defer to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in defining exactly what hybrid model means.
The board said it would not be involved in discussions on fall sports and other extracurricular activities, instead leaving those decisions to school districts, conferences and Missouri State High School Activities Association.
The Health Department director has been directed to develop gating criteria that can be used by the school districts to determine when it is appropriate to move between: all virtual learning; a hybrid model; and in-person learning.
