Apple Fixes Issue With “Washed Out” iMac Screens

Apple has released an extra patch for macOS that fixes a problem that left iMac screens looking “washed out” after resuming from sleep.

The so-called supplemental update for macOS Catalina 10.15.6 follows the 10.15.6 update that was released last month, and is a relatively unusual move for Apple.

The patch addresses two problems, according to Apple’s release notes. The first is that problem with the screens, which only affected the 2020 version of the 27in iMac with the retina 5K screen.

The second “fixes a stability issue that could occur when running virtualization apps,” such as VMware or Parallels, which are often used by people wanting to run Windows apps on their Mac.

The supplemental update is available now for anyone who already has macOS 10.15.6 installed. Click on the Apple in the top-left corner of the screen, click System Preferences and select Software Update to install the patch.

iMacs aren’t the only Apple device that have had a display problem rectified. Apple has also released a surprise update for iOS, which corrects a problem with tints being applied to iPhone screens.
