This year Kate and Wills have shone in their growing royal roles when other, less senior members, of the family have struggled.

While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tour of Southern Africa was deemed a huge success, it was marred by the couple’s admission they were finding life in the royal spotlight difficult.

Prince Andrew’s withdrawal from royal life after speaking out about his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein caused further unease for the Royal Family.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have provided a string of royal highlights in 2019.

The couple’s joint tour of Pakistan was widely praised and adorable photos of Wills and Kate dropping of Princess Charlotte for her first day of school were a royal highlight shared across the world.

The Cambridges have been extremely active in recent weeks with regular appearances at state engagements and charity events.

The Queen’s growing respect for Kate was made clear last week when she made the Duchess patron of Family Action charity, a post she had held for more than six decades.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams claimed Wills and Kate “are yet to put a foot wrong.”

To round of a successful year they will appear on a special Christmas TV programme alongside celebrity cook Mary Berry.

While the Royal Family have had some tricky TV moments in the past year, Kate and Will’s show is a sure hit.

Mr Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “William and Kate’s appearance on Mary Berry’s Show for a Christmas TV special plays to the British fondness for celebrity chefs and interest in food. It is as safe as houses.

“William and Kate have, thankfully, yet to put a foot wrong and this is likely to be a delightful and widely watched Yuletide experience from which others might learn.”

Mr Fitzwilliam claimed Wills and Kate will likely buck the ‘perilous’ trend of recent royal TV appearances.

He said: “Seeing royals appear on television recently has been somewhat perilous.

“Harry and Meghan’s highly contentious ITV documentary which highlighted their unhappiness with royal life despite the success of their Southern Africa tour was followed by the grotesque imbecility of Andrew’s interview with Emily Maitlis, which was a car crash of Krakatoan proportions.

While Wills and Kate are yet to confirm their Christmas plans it is understood the couple will take Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one, with the to see the Queen at Sandringham.

George and Charlotte broke up for the school holidays on Wednesday which means the Cambridges may choose to spend some time at their country home, Anmer Hall.

While during term time they are based in apartments at Kensington Palace the family are fans of the countryside and travel to Norfolk whenever they can.

Anmer Hall is a short distance from the Queen’s Sandringham home and is a practical base from which to visit her at Christmas.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not join the Queen for Christmas this year but will spend it with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland.

This Christmas will be Meghan and Harry’s first as parents having welcomed their son Archie Harrison to the world in May.

The Sussexes are currently on a six-week break from royal duty and are understood to spending some of it in the USA.

US native Meghan is said to reported to be gathering together her contacts in LA to help boost the couple’s Sussex Royal foundation abroad.
