Machine Shed, Contents Destroyed In Fire Near Hartley

Hartley, Iowa — A machine shed and all its contents were destroyed in a fire on Friday, November 29, 2019, near Hartley.

According to Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering, about 10:30 a.m., the Hartley Fire Department was called to the report of a fire in a metal building at 3080 Taft Avenue, four miles west and a little over a mile north of Hartley.

The chief says the fire department saw a mostly-burned up building as they approached the scene. He says they extinguished hot spots.

Meendering says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be related to an engine block heater.

Chief Meendering reports that there was likely over $100,000 damage. A payloader, three tractors, an office area, and more were all lost in the blaze. He says it was a hot fire.

He says the eight firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two and a half hours.
