Becky G, Desi Perkins: 'Muy excited' to be at Fiesta de la Flor in Corpus Christi

Becky G., felt humbled, honored, but most importantly, she said she felt 'muy excited' to be at Fiesta de la Flor this year and in Selena's hometown.

Much like Selena did, the 21-year-old Mexican-American singer and actress sings only in Spanish.

She said Selena's pride in her heritage and her ability to make an impact beyond the Latino community is what she loved most about her. 

Becky G. is known for her breakout role on the FOX drama series "Empire" and landed her first feature film role in Lionsgate’s "Saban’s Power Rangers."

Her debut album is fully in Spanish and features hits including, "Mayores", "Shower" and "Sola". She will perform at 10:45 Saturday at Fiesta de la Flor.

"I've idolized Selena since I was very young," Becky G. said. "Being here, in Selena's hometown, is something I will never ever forget."

Becky G. along with YouTube celebrity and makeup artist Desi Perkins, and Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga gathered at the Selena Auditorium on Saturday during Fiesta de la Flor. 

The trio spoke about what Selena represents to the Latino community, her legacy and lasting impact in young women. 

"She's inspired people beyond the Latino community," Becky G. said. "People know who I am talking about when I say 'Selena', they know I'm talking about the Selena Quintanilla."

The conversion was part of the One Person Unites Us one-on-one talk with Quintanilla Arriaga. This is the second time the panel is featured at the festival.

Last year, actresses Jackie Cruz and Jackie Guerra joined Quintanilla Arriaga on stage for the panel.  

Perkins, 30, who last year transformed herself in Selena's likeness using the MAC Selena makeup line, has thousands of followers and her video makeup tutorials more than half a million views on her YouTube channel. 

The makeup artist gave a live makeup tutorial for hundreds of fans Friday at the Selena Auditorium.

"Selena to me represents all young Latina girls who never had someone to look up to," Desi Perkins said. "She became that person for young girls and she still is. No one will be able to fill that spot. She is still inspiring young women today."

Quintanilla Arriaga, who is also CEO of Q Productions, said both of the young women remind her of her late sister's personality.

"They are so much like my sister, they are so real, so humble, and I love that about them," Quintanilla Arriaga said. "Those are the two qualities that I could instantly relate to my sister. And now we've become a family."
